The service “Application for Recognition of Professional Qualification” allows a citizen of another Member State of the European Union to apply to the National Labour Inspectorate for the recognition of a professional qualification acquired in another Member State of the European Union, for the purpose of performing an activity for which a specific legal regulation requires professional qualification.
To submit the application, the applicant must use an electronic identification card with a chip (eID) and must electronically sign the application.
In case of electronic submission all attachments must be submitted in electronic form and signed with a qualified electronic signature. If a certified signature is required for paper submission, a qualified electronic signature with a time stamp is its electronic equivalent. Attachments originally in paper form must be officially converted into electronic form through authorised persons (e.g. notary public, post office).
This service is subject to an administrative fee in accordance with Act No. 145/1995 Coll. on Administrative Fees.
The applicant shall attach the following documents:
- a copy of the identity card;
- a certified copy or an official translation of the certificate of professional qualification (or other related documents);
- document confirming professional experience, proving that the applicant has performed the relevant profession for at least one year in an employment relationship for the stated weekly working hours, or for an equivalent period of shorter employment within the past ten years, issued by the employer —applicable only if the activity or profession to be recognised in the territory of the Slovak Republic is regulated in the Slovak Republic but not regulated in the Member State where the qualification was obtained.

According to Article 16(1)(a) and (b) of Act No. 124/2006 Coll. on Occupational Safety and Health Protection, a natural person may perform such activities, instead of holding a certificate or other document pursuant to paragraph 1(b), on the basis of:
a) a valid certificate of recognition of professional qualification; the provisions of paragraph 2(a) and (c), paragraphs 3 and 4, the first sentence of paragraph 5, and paragraphs 6 to 12 shall apply accordingly to this certificate, or
b) a valid certificate of professional qualification issued in another Member State of the European Union, if the person is a cross-border service provider or has been posted to perform work in the territory of the Slovak Republic in the context of providing services from another Member State of the European Union.
The certificate of recognition of professional qualification (pursuant to Article 16(14)(b) of Act No. 124/2006 Coll.) is issued by the National Labour Inspectorate upon submission of an application and fulfilment of all statutory requirements.
